Shinomiya Shrine Festival This is a folk festival held on Hassaku Day—the first day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar—during which islanders gather “tanomo boats,” imbued with their gratitude for the harvest, in front of Shinomiya Shrine. After the boats undergo a purification ritual, they are set adrift at sea.
